A sample itinerary:
DAY 1: Board your Air New Zealand flight and travel to Norfolk Island. After settling in to your accommodation at Daydreamer Apartments, join the other tour participants at Mt Pitt for a “Welcome to Norfolk Island” sunset shoot. Afterwards, we go to the renowned Hilli Restaurant for a fabulous 2-course Welcome Dinner.
DAY 2: After breakfast, we drive to Kingston to photograph the spectacular seascapes of Sydney Bay and Slaughter Bay and the ruins and buildings at the historic World Heritage area. In the afternoon, we join a half-day island tour to familiarise yourself with the island’s geography and local information.
DAY 3: An early start today with a sunrise shoot at Cemetery Bay. After breakfast, we visit Cyclorama to gain an insight into the history of the Bounty mutineers and their Pitcairn/Norfolk history. Browse the local arts and crafts at the nearby Guava Gallery, then visit Seriously Chocolate for morning tea and the opportunity to buy some delicious hand-made chocolates. The rest of the morning is at your leisure. In the afternoon, we walk through the Hundred Acres Reserve to Rocky Point to photograph the Red-tailed Tropic Birds. In the evening, we drive to Puppies Point for a sunset shoot and a delicious Island Fish Fry where you can sample local dishes. During dinner, entertainment is provided by local musician Trent Christian and the Bauntie Beauties give a performance of traditional island dancing.
DAY 4: Just after sunrise, we drive to Hundred Acres to photograph the Moreton Bay fig trees in New Farm Road in the gorgeous morning light. Later in the morning, we drive to St Barnabas Church for a special photo session inside the church. In the afternoon, we walk down to Anson Bay to photograph spectacular coastal scenery, including Pulpit Rock and possibly a sunset.
DAY 5: This morning we join a guided bushwalk in Norfolk Island National Park followed by a BBQ breakfast at Anson Bay. Later in the morning, we drive to Cascade Bay and Cockpit Falls. In the afternoon, we visit the rock pools at Slaughter Bay and explore the Kingston ruins. In the evening (weather permitting), we drive to the Salt House ruins at Kingston for an astro-photography session, photographing the Milky Way.
DAY 6: An early start this morning with a sunrise shoot at Captain Cook Monument. After breakfast, visit the Sunday arts and crafts market at the Visitor Centre grounds. Later in the morning, we drive to Bloody Bridge and explore the historic Kingston cemetery. After lunch, we walk to Flagstaff Hill to take in spectacular views of Kingston. Later in the afternoon, we walk through Bumbora’s Reserve to Cresswell Bay, and on our way back to Daydreamer, we stop at the Arches ruins. After dinner (weather permitting), we drive to Kingston for a night photography session, including some light painting fun at the Cemetery and photographing the historic buildings along Quality Row.
DAY 7: Another early start with a sunrise shoot at Point Hunter. The rest of the morning is at your leisure – a recommended activity is the World of Norfolk Birds tour with Margaret Christian. Later in the afternoon, we visit Cemetery Bay to explore the rock pools at low tide, followed by a sunset shoot at Emily Bay. Afterwards, we wrap up the tour with a Farewell Dinner.
DAY 8: The last morning of the tour is at your leisure – revisit a favourite location, do some last minute duty free/souvenir shopping, or do one of the short optional tours. After lunch, drive to the airport to catch the Air New Zealand flight to Brisbane.
1. If time permits, drive to various viewpoints around the airport to watch scheduled passenger flights land and take off.
2. Watch the unloading of the supply ship (Kingston or Cascade) if the ship arrives during our visit.
